You know, I’m a big believer in curating your own content. You can tell what is in the article from the headline 90% of the time, and if that’s stuff you don’t wanna read, then don’t click on it. With that said...that one article trending on kinja right now is the clickbait-iest clickbait that ever clickbaited. Damn.
Also, I could probably browse stormfront.com and read that word used in a sentence like that fewer times than I have just browsing Gawker a bit while it’s ‘trending’.

.... Yeah I mean how hard is it to use characters to denote an expletive?
Also, I was shocked to hear the Congressman say it, but it any actuality the media-public figures who have been speaking out against the protesters have been getting away with saying that word without actually saying; just by using “thugs, etc.”

Not saying it isn’t click bait, but FWIW it was said sarcastically by a black guy to a white news anchor who didn’t understand why using the word “thug” is a bad choice.

Didn’t read the click bait. But does someone think that “thug” is an illegitimate word choice with racist overtones towards black people? Education is lacking these days.

Words change meanings, and “thug” is often used to describe black males who have committed a crime, whereas it is rarely used to describe a white dude.

Well, of course it is rarely used to describe a white “dude” as a dude is “a man extremely fastidious in dress and manner” according to Miriam-Webster. A dude is unlikely to be a thug. I would venture to guess a black “dude” is also unlikely to be labelled a “thug.” ;)
“Thug” and “Dude” are both appropriately used to describe behavior/mannerism of an individual which is why the key to what you said is “have committed a crime.” The word thug is appropriately used for anyone who does such a thing. It only becomes a racist word if we allow propaganda like this to change the perception of people. Look at most books that use the word thug. It is frequently used (maybe most frequently) to refer to mafia muscle who are un-intelligent and beat on people to get their way. So it would for most of its history be
Words rarely (if ever) change meanings. They frequently add meanings, but that does not invalid their primary/original meaning. Literal still means “in reality” even though it somehow has come to mean figurative as well. Stupid society.
